At Talisman, we’re all for the girls. We recognise the triumphs and the challenges of women entering into the workforce, and we commend and celebrate their achievements all whilst acknowledging those working to raise the bar when it comes to equality for all.

In a moment of reflection to acknowledge International Women’s Day, or IWD, we held a one-on-one with powerhouse designer for Talisman “Tilly” to get an insight into her experiences and perspectives as a women recently graduating and entering the workplace.

Q: First things first… Tell us a little about yourself!

A: I’m Tilly – I’m 24 years old and grew up in the Clare Valley, South Australia. After completing Year 12 at Clare High, I had no idea what I wanted to do with my life, so I signed up to the TAFE/Flinders Uni Bachelor of Creative Arts (Fashion) degree on a whim, because I thought it “sounded fun.” Keep in mind, I had never used a sewing machine before… call me crazy!

I finished my studies in 2018 and was awarded Graduate of the Year. Within the same week of graduating, I was put forward for an assistant role at Holiday Trading and started the week after my graduation. Four years on and I’m now designing for the Talisman brand alongside an amazing team of women, and I’ve never looked back.

When I’m not working, you’ll either find me at the gym or hitting up the local thrift & antique stores with my partner, Rhys. We’re huge vintage nerds.

Q: What is the most important message you want to send out to young women thinking about their careers?

A: Follow a career path in something you’re truly passionate about, not something you’re “expected” to do. What’s that saying – “Do what you love, and you’ll never work a day in your life”? … I mean, I think we all work pretty damn hard here at The Holiday Collective, but it’s totally worth it. I wouldn’t have it any other way!

Q: What is your go to style like?

A: I’m like a chameleon – I never stick to one style! I vary between what I like to call “cool girl chic” and “boho beach babe” depending on my mood. Two completely opposite styles, yet both so me! That’s the thing I love about fashion, you can literally be whoever you want to be.

Q: Which powerful women do you admire the most?

A: My mum is the most powerful woman I know. She has taught me everything about being independent, honest, hardworking, and authentic. She is my number 1 supporter and the first person I turn to when I need advice or support – personally and professionally. I hope I’m like her when I grow up!

And we can’t forget Mrs Holiday Collective herself, Rayna Hooper. The true definition of a Boss Lady. I admire the way she has built this absolute empire, and still finds time to be in touch with every single element of the business. I feel extremely lucky to be able to learn from her - she’s a powerhouse!

Q: What is the most important piece of advice you have been given?

A: Say yes to every opportunity and work the rest out later.
